The meeting went great! The client loved your proposal and wants you to add a few other features. Can you get him an updated timeline and cost breakdown by the end of the week because he wants to move on this right away.

Your head is spinning. Can this really be happening? Has all that hard work finally paid off?

You might need to back burner another project and sub-contract part of the work to meet their deadline, but it's doable and it will be worth it.

You float back to the office on autopilot, your face flushed with pleasure as you relive every word and nuance of the best meeting ever.

Innovators are always learning...

I've been going to a lot of networking events lately and the one thing I've noticed is that two kinds of people show up at those meetings, interesting people doing exciting things and people who have attained what my father-in-law calls their "maximum level of competence."

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that a stagnant mind leads to stagnant ideas which lead to stagnant sales.

Week 3 Notes - Have you seen Seamus the Leprechaun?

Apparently Intown Manchester's famous Morty the Elf has a naughty cousin, Seamus the Leprechaun and he's gone missing. They say he's hiding out in some of the downtown businesses and there is a prize if you can find him.

I don't spend that much time downtown these days, but if you do -- keep an eye out. He's been on the loose since March 2nd and it doesn't sound like they'll be rounding him up before the end of the month. For more details visit: http://www.nh365.org/calendar/events/event/Seamus_the_Leprechaun/83433/dt/345463.aspx

In networking news this week's events calendar is chock full of activities.

To blog or not to blog, that is the question. Or is it?

Maybe a better question would be why aren't you blogging? What should you blog about and how often should you do it?

Perhaps the real question is whether you even need to blog.

It's overwhelming, isn't it?

Popular wisdom says that every business should be blogging, but since when do you pay attention to popular wisdom?

What's wrong with right now?

It doesn't matter if you're baking a cake or building an empire, once the planning is done it's time to get down to work.

So what are you waiting for?

Week 2 Notes - Nothing to See Here...

After looking at my three favorite event calendars, it looks like I'm going to have to start expanding my search.

Other than the usual Gold Star meetups and the weekly Londonderry Networking Breakfast there doesn't seem to be too much going on in Manchester this week.

Maybe it's the time change or maybe people just don't no what to do when we don't get a foot of snow every other day. I can't explain it.

I was sitting at my desk this morning eating my oatmeal when it occurred to me that there are really only three core office personality types resulting in a total of seven possible variations.

  1. Doers
  2. Dreamers
  3. Whiners
  4. Doer-Dreamers
  5. Whining-Dreamers
  6. Whining-Doers
  7. Dreaming-Whining-doers

That's it. Forget about the introvert, extrovert, intuitive, thinking labels based on years of testing and research. It's too complex and doesn't really help the average person trying to put together or motivate a team.

It's a great idea, but...did you do the math?

Sometimes a new idea sounds great in your head, but doesn't translate well in the outside world. Don't worry, it's not another ploy to get you to do a business plan.

Doing the math is something you need to think about before you even get to the business planning stage.

Week 1 Notes

As usual, Wednesday seems to be the busiest day this week. In addition to the weekly Gold Star and Londonderry Breakfast meetups, there is the monthly StartUp meeting at the Alpha Loft as well as the (women's) Net Lunch meeting in Bedford and a Find Your Passion meetup in Londonderry.

I'm still trying to catch up from all those vacation and snow days, but will be making the time to get to the Alpha Loft StartUp meeting. They've added "a new feature to the the meetup called "dynamic issue processing" to help people find solutions or direction for any problem or opportunity they are facing. Based on my last visit it should be a powerful tool for anyone (like me!) stuck in the planning process.

Finding the Zone

I know it sounds kind of new age touchy feely, but when you think about it being in the moment is just like being in the zone and who doesn't love the zone?

Awareness, focus, mindfulness, being in the moment is about ignoring tomorrow's to do list, letting go of outside distractions and paying attention to the moment you're in right now. Whether you need to plug in to an IPod, meditate or simply make a conscious choice to focus, find your process and actively be in the moment.
