It's almost June and you know what that means, it's time to talk about golf.

I'm going to be honest, golf is one of those activities that I just don't get, but the prevalence of golf leagues, outings, and tournaments suggests I am in the minority.

Since there are so many golf events on next month's calendar I decided it makes sense to do a special post just for golf.

Most of these events are for charity and use a scramble format so no excuses. People will be way too busy laughing at your plaid shorts to notice your golf skills.

If your schedule doesn't have wiggle room for a regular league or a daylong tournament, how about a couple evenings?

Alpha Loft's annual Startup Shindig is the biggest tech & business event of the year in Manchester and possibly the entire state.  This is where everyone who is anyone in the local tech and startup scene kicks back and celebrates the entrepreneurial spirit in the Granite State.

There will be food and drinks, tons of networking, and presentations from eleven participants of this year's Accelerate NH program.

The Millworks II Fund will also be announcing which two lucky companies will be awarded $300,000 in funding.

Have you ever been to a national convention? Workshops and talks by renowned experts, hundreds of vendor booths, cocktail receptions, and awards dinners. Forty hours of activity crammed into two or three days. You eat, drink, and skip sleep and by the time you get over the jet lag, it's time to go home.

So what is the point?

Sneak Peek: Why Does Your Customer Hire Your Product? Design Thinking Using Jobs-to-be-Done

Business 101 says you need to know your customer

  • Who they are
  • What they want
  • What they need

This should be a slam dunk, right?  Knowing your customer should make it easy to build products they will buy.

So why do we struggle?

Why is there such a disconnect between the designer who wants to innovate and the client who just wants to push a button?

Maybe someone should be asking why they need it...

In case you didn't hear, it's National Small Business Week and the Granite State is rising to the challenge.
