Necessity is the Mother of Invention

Congratulations! It took years of trial and error, months of testing and gallons of blood, sweat and tears, but you've finally cobbled together the perfect combination of productivity tools to keep your projects on track. Your moment of triumph was a long time coming and you earned it, but don't spend too much time basking in the glory because you still have to figure out how to connect all the parts.

I feel your pain.

You found the perfect note taking tool, the best calendar and the most efficient project organizer. They each do exactly what you want the way you want, but they're three separate products.

What happens when you want to use Evernote to make an appointment on your Google calendar or move notes to Trello?

What happens when you need to work with a client who only uses Basecamp or Zoho?

The most popular apps have on board tools for migrating content to other popular apps like Google, Basecamp and Trello but they're not always easy to use and it can get tricky trying to remember which app you've given permission to.

If you're like me and use multiple apps it can get overwhelming.

A Conversation with Tech Guru Norm Gentry

"If you haven't planned for it you're not going to do anything but pay the money" It's a bold statement from a soft spoken man and it sends chills down my spine.

What would you do? What can you do if your computer gets hit with ransomware? What about the Windows 10 upgrade? Is it worth it? Does it really cause all the problems we hear people complaining about on the web?

Between security breaches, viruses and Microsoft's heavy handed upgrades the internet is rife with tales of tech woe so when I met Norm Gentry from SBTI Technology Solutions at last month's Coffee Buzz I jumped on the chance to pick his brain.

Ask Questions & Get Hands On Help Installing Ubuntu

Hey everybody, I want to give a quick heads up about the free Linux Installfest Open Source NH is holding on Saturday, March 12th from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM at Alpha Loft 844 Elm Street, Manchester

It's a great opportunity for anyone who has ever thought about chucking Windows and trying Linux to ask questions and get some installation help.

This will be a two-part event with one section focusing on how to install Linux (Ubuntu) and the second section will be an open discussion and questions/answer session about Linux in general.

The installation session will feature the Ubuntu version of Linux because it is the most popular, but the group discussion will be talking about the many flavors of Linux with experienced users answering questions about their favorite.

Baby it's cold outside...

Maybe it's Valentine's Day or maybe it's just the bitter cold temps, but this week's events calendar has gone a little crazy. There's not too much going on for business and networking events, but the NH Tech & Creative events calendar is off the charts.

If you're looking to get your geek on or dust off those photography skills you are in luck because coding and photography feature prominently on this week's calendar.

First up I want to talk about the Google Developer Group NH (GDGNH). GDGNH is hosting an information night on Tuesday, February 16th from 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM at Alpha Loft 844 Elm Street, Manchester to share information about their upcoming Android Study Jam series.

Are you ready for the easiest screen recording tool ever? Would it help if I said that it's free?

One of the questions I've been asked a lot lately is "How can I record a screencast?"

There are so many cool tools and apps out there for pretty much every device and budget, but most of them have some kind of learning curve and if all you need is a quick screen capture for a video tutorial or step-by-step guide for a client it can get overwhelming.

Which brings me to a hidden gem from the engineers at Microsoft's Tech Net Magazine called Screen Recorder.

Screen Recorder is an entry level no cost, no frills program for recording basic screen captures.
